Beverly Hills, CA (March 18, 2010)Paradox Entertainment has acquired the option for SPEED DEMON, with Peter Winther directing and Paradox’s Fredrik Malmberg producing. The screenplay is written by Mike Sorrentino and Randy Vampotic. The project was originally developed by Peter Winther and the late Academy Award-winning visual and makeup effects creator Stan Winston, with further creature design by Patrick Tatopoulos (UNDERWORLD, I AM LEGEND).
SPEED DEMON is a supernatural action film about an underworld enforcer hunting a small-time crook on a desert highway, finding that he, himself, is being tracked by a mysterious, terrifying creature.
As a director, Peter Winther helmed the first film in TNT’s LIBRARIAN franchise, several episodes of their hit series LEVERAGE, and is also attached to direct ISOBAR, produced by Dean Devlin’s Electric Entertainment. Winther is represented by manager Justin Silvera of Silvera Management and agent David Gersh.
“Words can not convey how excited I am to be working with Paradox Entertainment to bring this creature creation to life. Paradox is the perfect home to see this through. Their passion and focus within this genre is unparalleled and they are a blast to work with,” says Peter Winther.
“When we were approached with this project, we immediately knew it was something we had to be part of. SPEED DEMON is more than a classic creature-feature and has great merchandising potential, making it a perfect match for Paradox. Sorrentino and Vampotic have captured the essence of Winther’s vision, and this is a film – and creature – to look out for. It’s coming for you,” says Fredrik Malmberg.
Fredrik Malmberg is currently producing CONAN with Avi Lerner and Millenium Films, to be distributed by Lionsgate in 2011. CONAN started principal photography in Bulgaria on March 15th. A feature film about popular sci-fi hero BUCK ROGERS is currently in development at Paradox Entertainment in collaboration with Lawrence Abramson and George Furla. Also in development at Paradox are the feature films KULL and DARK AGNES, which, like CONAN, are characters created by Robert E. Howard.
